About Me

I am a faculty member at Grand Canyon University where I teach philosophy.

My areas of expertise are normative theory, metaethics, the history of ethics, and the intersection of these topics with philosophy of religion and philosophical theology.

I am a member of the faculty of philosophy at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Before coming to Phoenix, I completed a Ph.D. in philosophy at Baylor University, where I was the last dissertation student of C. Stephen Evans. Before that, I earned an M.A. in philosophy at Georgia State University and a B.A. in PPE from The King's College (NYC).

My academic research has focused on normative theory, metaethics, the history of ethics, and the intersection of these topics with philosophy of religion and philosophical theology. I wrote my Master's thesis on Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. I have also written on the ethical thought of Boethius, Richard Hooker, Peter Vermigli, and C.S. Lewis. You can find my CV here.

I have taught several college level classes, including Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Medical Ethics, Contemporary Moral Problems, Faith and Philosophy, Logic, and Critical Thinking. I have twice been nominated to receive the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award for my teaching performance at Baylor University.

On the Summer Solstice of 2014, Carol Anne Ausband and I were wed. We currently live in Waco, where we are raising our four children: Elsie, Jack, Bear, and Katharine. Elsie is a voracious reader. Jack loves chess, wrestling, and and all things chivalrous. Bear's feral nature is in constant need of taming. Katharine is a tiny baby.Â
